The Great Gatsby Essay

The notion of the American dream figures prominently in this story.  How do readers define the American dream?  Moreover, is pursuing the American dream necessarily a good thing?

Words by our State Senator-
  • Hitler was democratically elected

  • Trump- "Open up the first amendment" he doesn't understand that he doesn't have the right to do that.
  • They don't want critical thinking they want obidious
  • We need to have a whole broader definition of education
  • A million ways to measure achievement and learning
  • Continuing in a period where education is all about memorization...
  • You need to able to have your brain be part of this process
  • We need to arm every teacher so they can defend the students
Level of concern based on immigration
  • We need to stay informed
  • Social media- have a certain grouping of the people you talk with based on topics
  • Get a group and have a constant/ productive conversation
  • Be informed and be interactive
  • Robert Kennedy- "every time you do something like that you create a little energy"
  • Donald Trump wants as much power as he can get
  • Only power is going to come from the Press, ourselves, and his streaks
  • Go to protests, go to meet ups, write letters...
Does he agree with some concerns of Trump
  • Negotiating prescription drug prices
  • Lower prices for the people
  • Intro structure building spending
  • His objective is not so much of policies

What we can do for him!
  • Elect smart thoughtful people
  • Trump used to go to these poor trumps, we're gonna say that we're too rich
  • Question then closesly and see if they really make sense
  • Elect other people who are thoughtful, care about the county and know what they're doing.

The Great Gatsby Group Discussion

Not everyone agrees on many things related to the book, "The Great Gatsby"

Is Gatsby really a bad person?
      - I say he isn't
      - Most of the people in my group say he is

Is Daisy selfish?
     - Everyone in my group agreed she is due to her only caring about herself and not the people that surround her

Why does Gatsby through these extravagant parties?
     - I say because he wishes for Daisy for come to one of his public parties one of these days
     - The rest of my group says, he throws these parties to show to Daisy on what she's missing on ( his wealth ). How her life would've been different if she would've waited for Gatsby

After all this discussion..................... our group broke up due to disagreement 😂

THE GREAT GATSBY REMIX

So far in "The Great Gatsby".............. I understand what the book is trying to tell it's readers but I don't fully understand it. All I know is that Gatsby isn't really mentioned in the book even though the book is entitled after him, Tom is cheating on Daisy with Myrtle, nobody likes Tom because he's a douche, etc.....

So for my remix I'm going to ask some questions that will hopefully help me understand the book better...

•Why is Gatsby a mysterious person and mostly nobody knows who he is or how he is?

•If Tom is cheating on Daisy with Myrtle, then why doesn't he divorce her already?

•Why isn't Gatsby at his own party!?!? 🤔

•Does Nick like Jordan?? 🙄🤔

Gatsby Notes

• Gayety- State or qualities
• Spectroscopic- energy about the event
• Book symbol- Gatsby doesn't want people to think that he's fake

• Why isn't Gatsby at his own party? Isn't the right thing for the host to he present at their one. Party welcoming its guest?

•Superficiality- how people look at each other

•Quote "This is an unusual party for me. I haven't even seen the host"

•Gatsby's word- "Old Sport"
•Expectaion of Gatsby- florid and corpulent person in his middle years.

• The lonely crowd- it's considered lonely because in a big party nobody seems to pay attention to you due to the big number of people there.
