MY MAD DREAM OF AN ESSAY

Remember that time you ate that spicy enchilada just before you went to bed on the night before the big football game?  Oh, that weird dream you had about the 2016 presidential election.  When you woke up you couldn't quite remember the small details, but after reading "On Self-Reliance" and "A Sound of Thunder" it's all coming back to you now.

The dream started badly.  You were in line with your family at a fast food restaurant waiting to be sent to the grocery store.  Everywhere you looked there were posters of president-elect Donald Duck, looking like a crazy monkey who could eat a whole lot of bananas.

Suddenly, there was Ralph Waldo Emerson telling you, "Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles."  You realized that you have something to contribute to the world so you decided to dance.  But it wasn't easy.  First you had to put on a fancy outfit and shoes and then you had to make a pizza to go back in time to the fair so you could convince people to learn about the candidates and that everyone is the same no matter what race they are.

But right there in the fair there was a giant turkey and it started gobbling at everyone.  People started to scream.  You grabbed a radio from a nearby stand and yelled stop the racism.  Everyone stopped and listened, so you kept going.

Some choices we make in this moment can benefit us or damage us right now or later in our future. In life, we sometimes tend to make decisions that we know are right or that seem beneficial at the time. We don’t always see the negative stuff in things until it affects us. We all I know, well I think, that the choices we make right now will lead us to the future we are headed. When we make choices we might not imagine how it might lead us or affect our future. All decisions have a good and a bad outcome that we might not know at the moment. Good choices are those whose outcomes meet our expectations and bad choices are those who don’t whose outcomes don’t meet our expectations. Our actions might not be as smart and mature sometimes, but whatever we do we can’t change it when it’s done.
When I make choices, I usually think twice before I say what I’m going to do, say, want, or receive, also it can be the opposite, it can be something that I don’t want to do, say, want, or receive. Being smart and wiser will probably bring you better results than just not thinking and doing things without looking at the negatives first. We always have to be wise in making decisions. My actions create my individual self because the way I think and act, in a good way of course. For example, last year I made the choice that I was going to take the challenge and risk to raise a market show steer for the Santa Barbara County Fair. It was a risky and brave choice that I made that day last year, which I knew was going to be challenging but fun at the same time. This choice I had made was going to decide on how my future was going to be like.  Who would’ve known, that that choice would’ve made a huge positive turn in my life. It was probably one of the most important choices that I don’t regret at all. It was challenging, dangerous, and life risking, but it was fun and unforgettable. I made so much memories that would last a life time. That choice I made changed my life that I decided to raise another market show steer this year. With some experience under my belt I would know how to make this experience better and unforgettable, just like last year. The memories will make will last a lifetime.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Nothing can bring you peace, but yourself." It really is true what Emerson said. Nobody else knows what makes you happy, but yourself. Only you know what you can do and not do. That’s how life works, that’s why your choices will lead you to your future. Emerson says to not rely on other people to do the stuff for you, or for them to tell you what to do. No person is going to live your life their own way. We have to make choices that will benefit us and not think about what others think. If we rely on others do tell us what to do, then we might not live life as much as we would like to and regret it later in the future. Many of us don’t make our own choices because of fear of what others might think about you. We are too scared to do things because we don’t want to feel left out. We want to fit into society, when in reality, not fitting with society is way more important. Being the same as others is way too boring. If we’re all the same then this world would be so boring, there will no reason for us to live if everything we’re going to see is going to be the same. We can be the change in this world if we make our own choices. The future can be a better place if we make ourselves better first by not depending on others, which is exactly what Emerson says throughout his whole essay. If you want to see a change in this world, then you should step up and do something about it. In my opinion, the first step will be to make your own choices to lead you to your next step. We are allowed make our own choices because we only know what they will benefit us with.
Ray Bradbury once said in this essay “A Sound of Thunder,” “What sort of world it was now, there was no telling.” Imagine living in a world that we don’t even know what’s going on. This is where our choices come in. If we don’t really make wise choices, then we might not know what this world would be like. Choices in this world determine our future, like literally. Bradbury makes it really clear in his essay how we the choices can change the results of the future. One single change can change everything. We never see the real things in stuff until it affects us in a way. We don’t always know what the right or wrong choices are until we take them and see the results. There are times when we know what the right choice is and what the wrong choice is. There’s also times that we don’t know at all because we don’t really look at it closely. No matter what choices we make in life, there will be no way we will be able to change them.

In conclusion, choices play an important role in everyone’s life. Without choices life will be so boring and plain. Our choices are what make up our future and our life interesting along the way. So, try to always make the right choices that way your future will be amazing!!

EMERSON'S CHILD

Emerson said,”Every heart vibrates to that iron string.” So little use of words have a very big meaning. Every person in this world is different in many ways and that's what Emerson tries to tell us in his essay. The closer we look at things the less chance we have to get a better perspective towards things. We need to learn how to appreciate the things and people that surround us, but most importantly learn how to appreciate ourselves. We shouldn't be afraid to express ourselves in this world, even though it might seem scary at times.
Emerson has this special way of thinking and speaking. Based on his Self-Reliance essay, the way Emerson would view the 2016 Presidential Election is all lies. He wouldn't be on either side, Hillary or Donald. He would be glad that they are speaking what they feel and say their opinions out loud. Both candidates say what they think and aren't afraid of what others think. For example, Donald Trump said a lot of crap regarding to immigrants without caring what others think. He would suggest that us as individuals should say what we feel. To not keep anything to ourselves, there are people out there that will listen and not judge you. This world is free to say our opinions out loud. As a community, we should work together to do what's better for us. We should not take things at a whole different level, we should just say what we feel. For example, right now as a community some are going out and protesting because they don't agree with what is happening right now in this world and then there's other people that are getting out of hand.
Emerson would suggest that we learn in our own unique way that we understand in order to pursue our goals. We can't learn the same way as others. Every person in this world has their unique way of learning. We should learn not only the good things but also all the other things there is in this world. In order to be aware of everything we need to know how this world functions. The way he would view our school and career aspirations is in a very different way than others would. He would see us as chicks who are too afraid to hatch out of it shell. Everyone in school don't have the courage to be themselves. They might be too timid or scared to be who they truly are. He would suggest everyone in the high school to do what they want to do, no matter what others think. Everyone in this world is free to know what they want and go for it. Nothing is better in life than to chase your own dreams. Your life is only yours if you make it yours. No one can tell you what to do or what not to do. They're not the ones who are going to live your life for you, so go ahead and choose your path. That's what I think Emerson would say to every single one of us. He would see us going into big careers, careers that will make us someone in life. That will only happen if we actually decide to hatch from our shell. He would tell us not to rely on others and to go ahead with our decisions. This world was meant for people to express what they feel and say what they want.
Emerson's essay is basically about, "be yourself." All that is said is telling you to be yourself. His way of putting things makes it so simple to do it, but in reality it's not. It's not easy to be yourself in a world where everyone tries to put you down every time they see you rising to the top. When Emerson says "yourself" I think he is meaning you as a person. In my opinion, he is trying to grab your attention by saying "yourself." He believes that you "yourself" can make something happen in this world. To be yourself is not that easy as it might look like. Being yourself in this world is a challenge to most, either you accomplish it or you don't. It's an obstacle in life that you have to overcome. When others aren't looking, we tend to be a whole different person and bring out that inner you. We don't act the same when we are with someone as when we are alone. We do stuff that we don't do around others because we know that we won't be judged. We can only be our true selves when there aren't others around to watch and judge, well sometimes. Our true nature is what we do when no one else is watching. Expressing ourselves in this world is not easy, even though at times it might seem like it isn't. We think and feel many things, but sometimes we don't say them out loud. Our thought and feelings need to be heard by others but we're just too afraid to say them. For the same fact that others judge. All we want from this world is for people not to judge and let us be who we truly are. We can't keep on hiding our true selves no more. Emerson can be used as an inspiration to a person's everyday life. We never know what he can impact in a person's life.
In conclusion, all little things have a big meaning to them. We need to learn how to be more open minded and confident. If we really want to get somewhere in life, we have to hatch from our shell and be who we truly are not caring what others think or do. Others won't get us through life, only you as yourself will. We should take in all of what Emerson said and let's not rely on others. We were born into this world to be unique and stand out, not to be like everyone else. Let's stay original!

AN EARTH-SHATTERING FAR

I just finished reading this article and in my opinion it relates so much to this recent presidential election. It talks about how if we get rid of one thing from a specie we end with all of the rest. This connects to what Trump wants to do with the Muslims, Mexicans and other immigrants. If he decides to get rid of all immigrants he will end with everything that they do. Who will harvest then peoples crops! There'll be no people to harvest them, which means that the farmers will loose a lot of money. Getting rid of certain people can damage everything else that surrounds it. That's how his article relates to what is happening in this world right now.

MY EMERSON

For my Emerson project I will be bringing 2 eggs. I will be doing this presentation with my friends Ale Llamas. We thought that bringing a hard boiled and uncooked egg would represent Emerson main idea in a unique way. Both eggs will represent persons in society. The uncooked egg will be representing how a person can break all of a sudden if we put a lot of pressure on them. The hard boiled egg will be repsenting how if a person is not put into much pressure on how to be self reliant, then it'll come out as a beautiful result besucase it'll be opening itself to the wold piece by piece.

EMERSON FOR THE YOUNG BUCK

I have learned so many things from Emerson these past few days. Not only about his essay but also the way he thinks. He lets us know in many ways that we should trust in ourselves. We shouldn't be afraid to say what we want. Our voices/opinions matter in this world. No matter how absurd a comment might sound like, it's still very important to say. Everyone in this world is different, nobody is the same. Us being different makes our way of thinking different. Also, how we should rely on others to manage our lives for us. We shouldn't let others tell us what to do because we're smart enough to guide ourselves through this journey, which is called "life."

EMERSON SAID IT

1. "Nothing can bring you peace but yourself"
-In my opinion, I feel like this quote means that we can live our lives the way we want. We can't live peacefully in this world if we don't put something of us in it. Our future results basically depends on the way we decide to live it and what actions to take. In other words, we make our lives what we want it to be by making our own choices.
          - I think this was brought up in the conversation today because we were talking about how we can't let others manage our lives by making decisions for us.

2. "Every heart vibrates to that iron string"
          - I think this quote means that every person is different in this world. Not everyone is the same in this world. Like Paloma said earlier, she thinks of it how a guitar has different strings and they all make a different sound. We can all be defined as a string of a guitar because we all do different things and don't sound the same, either by the way we speak, think or act. Each guitar string plays a different note, either by being natural, sharp or flat. That's the beauty of life
          - I think this was brought up due to the same reason as the rest of the quotes. Everyone is society is different and has the right to prove it.

3. "Man is timid and apologetic; he is no longer upright; he dares not say 'I think,' but quotes some saint or sage"
          - I think this means that a person is timid/ shy to speak up for themselves. Some people don't like to say their opinions due to the fact that they're scared of what others might say or think. Society know-a-days don't have the courage to say their own opinion.
          - This was brought up because we talking about how some don't really speak up for themselves and are letting others manage their lives.

4. "Men have looked away from themselves and at things so long that they have come to esteem to religious, learned, and civil institutions as guards of property, and they deprecate assaults on these, because they feel them to be assaults on property"
          - This quote basically means that we take things for granted. Sometimes we look at things so closely that we don't realize how important they really are of their main purpose until it's too late. We tend to push those important things away not knowing how valuable they are.
          - This was brought up because of the same reason as the rest, we don't notice all the beautiful things in life because of how we let others control our lives.

5. "Nothing can bring you peace, but the triumph of principles"
          - This means that nothing can bring you peace other than yourself and the victory of your own behavior. It's similar to the first quote from all five. The results to our lives our the actions we decide to take.
          - This was brought up because they were saying how we sometimes let others control our lives which is why we live it the way we do right now. We don't let ourselves fly free without bumping into an obstacle.
