Literature Analysis Question #1

1. The plot of "A Walk to Remember" by Nicholas Sparks starts of by explaining where the story takes place, which is in Beufort, North Carolina. Landon is a senior in High school, he's a boy whom you will consider "bad". The homecoming dance is coming up and Landon doesn't know who to ask out. He goes through every list of girls he has but they all have dates. He finally decides to ask Jamie, a girl who mostly nobody talks to since she's too into religion. They end up going to homecoming, Landon wishing that none of his friends sees them together. After the dance they didn't talk, not until Jamie gives him a call to ask him a favor. The favor that Jamie asks him is for him to play the role of Tom in the Christmas play. Landon agrees to be part of the play just for Jamie. They rehearse over the play everyday in drama class because the day of the play is coming soon. Throughout those days, Landon walks Jamie home everyday because she asks him to. He doesn't like her and so doesn't she. The play comes and everything goes as they were expecting, EXCELLENT!! For the play Jamie got a touch of beauty, which made her look even more beautiful. Due to that, Landon kind of started getting feelings for her (the ministers daughter). He didn't tell her what he was feeling right away, he wanted to find the perfect moment.  A couple days passed and Landon finally decided to tell her. They leave happily together but a very dark secret of Jamie might separate them forever. Jamie suffered from cancer, which means she only has certain amount of months to live. The two live everyday of life to the fullest now that they have each other. Landon was able to make Jamie's dream come true before she died, which was for her to get married to the love of her life. Sadly, Jamie dies and Landon is left alone with his broken heart. He was glad that he was able to be part of Jamie's life. She changed him completely, she made him a better person. Even though Jamie died, Landon never left her father alone. He went to visit him and they talked about Jamie. Jamie will forever be part of Landon's life.
2. The theme of the Novel is "God's Plan". The reason why is because the Novel is mostly about Jamie and her beliefs. Jamie believes that gods plan always happens for a reason, it'll lead you to your destination. Towards the end of the movie Jamie mentions how it was god's plan for her and Landon's to meet and fall in love.
3. I imagine the authors life in so many different ways. Easy, hard, loving or busy life. The reason is because in the Novel his tone changes from sad to happy then sad again. I imagine his morning routine being relaxing and unstressed. Why? Because the way he writes it makes him seem like a very happy and faithful person that doesn't really deal with any problems. I feel like he gets up early every single morning to get his day started. Due to the fact that his books are so calm, I feel like he doesn't drink any caffeine, probably tea. He might do some meditation to get his thoughts together and just to relax. Just like Landon had to do some thinking before declaring to Jamie. In my opinion I don't think he drinks, not to the point where he gets hungover. I picture him eating a light breakfast in the morning, probably cereal or oatmeal. All of these thoughts of mine are based on what happened in the story. The story is so well planned, he always knows when's the right time for something extreme to happen. I just imagine his life like that. As the books he has written.
4. One literary technique from the novel is foreshadowing. An example from the novel is when Landon starts the story by saying that his life changed when he was seventeen years old which means that he is preparing us for memorable events that he’s never forgotten. Also when Landon warns us that we will laugh and cry, he promises the loving relationship that will develop between him and Jamie. When Jamie gives Landon her mother’s Bible for Christmas, it foreshadows that as many dying people do, she is giving away the things she loves to those she loves the most. The 2nd literally technique is irony.  An example from the story is when Jamie gives Landon one condition if she agrees to go to homecoming with him which is that he won't fall in love with her and that's exactly what ends up happening. Another example is as winter begins to turn into spring. Landon is struck by how life comes back even as Jamie lays dying. The third example from the story is when Jamie tells Landon that she had gone to the hospital, which is why she wasn't at school that day, but mentions to him that his dad is perfectly healthy, which means there's something wrong with her. The 3rd literary technique is symbolism. An example from the story is when Jamie sits on the floor at the orphanage on Christmas Eve with a sleeping child on her lap, she is symbolic of the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child (in my opinion). Also when Jamie’s mother’s Bible symbolizes her natural goodness and the piece of herself she gives to Landon. The last example is Jamie’s walk down the aisle, which symbolizes  “a walk to remember,” all that symbolizes her strength and her love that is returned ten times by all those who watch her walk up to her love of her life, which is Landon. The 4th literary technique is metaphor. An example is the bible, Jamie’s old copy of her bible/ mother's symbolizes a theme from the novel, faith in God. Another example is the graveyard, it has a importance that Landon isn't aware of. Jamie knows she is really sick and that she will be dying soon. The last example is the collection on tins, it serves as a symbol of the best deed of Jamie and of the transformation of Landon, from him being bad to good. The 5th literary technique is motivation. An example from the novel is when Landon goes to visit the kids at the orphanage, the depressing life of the children makes him think what he can do to make the lives of other people better, it motivates him to do good things. Another example is when she suggests that he should become a minister, Jamie is offering him a different self-image, she's motivating him to become a better person. The last example is how Jamie changes Landon into a motivated, kind and romantic young man as their relationship grows.

I CAN READ

I made a couple mistakes as I was reading "Fox in Sox" by Dr. Seuss. I probably made 15+ mistakes but this was my first try.

My Three Choices

My three choices:
1. How swift uses diction in "A Modest Proposal" is that he exaggerates. He uses some really strong words that make him sound so convincing. Him using syntax is basically the same as diction. Everything he says convinces you to agree with him.

2. The impressions that the document makes are, how convincing it is, makes it sound as if it were really true (which some of it isn't), and the type of words he uses.

3. The document seems like a serious thing but at the same time is seems like a goofy topic. The words make it sound so serious and convincing, but it sometimes seems like nonsense. I don't really know what to say, so I just choose both.

The Conscience of the Hacker

My response towards the conscience of the hacker is pretty simple. I think it's pretty accurate. We all get in trouble or aren't believed by people just because of our age or something different. We could sometimes be right about something but they'll deny it! Why? Because we're not at that age where we could tell them what's right and what's wrong.

"A Modest Proposal" Response

"A Modest Proposal" meets the criteria of satire because of all the examples it uses to compare children to. For example, when he says that children are used to feed people. Children are not used to feed people but he just makes us see it that way to explain to us what's going on with children these days. Too many are produced in less than a year from mothers who simply don't care about them, some. Swift's use of dictation, syntax, and tone effectively conveys this message by exaggerating on how children are being abandoned by their parents, simply because they don't care about them. Like I said earlier, he compares them to animals. It makes us see how things really are serious.

My Big Questions

My biggest question is, "what happens after we die?" "Is there really an afterlife like history books say?" "Or do we just vanish from the world as we see it?" Those are my biggest questions that have not been yet answered and don't know when they will. My first impression towards the article "What's your Big Question" was how it stated on how we ask questions about everything. It says something that is actually so true. As we get older we somehow loose that confidence in ourselves to ask questions. Younger kids don't always care what others think or say about them, but as we get older we start to feel some embarrassment. Confidence fades away overtime is what standed out the most for me.

Satire Source #3

I believe this is another example of satire because it shows some mockery. Their just teasing Donald Trump about the Purple Heart and Make A Wish.

Satire Source #2

I believe this is an example of satire because of all the sacrcasm. For example, just by looking at the magazine covers. They seem pretty funny and exaggerated. They use some people to make fun of in a funny way.

Satire Source #1

I believe this source is an example of satire because the captions to each breaking news is funny, a better way to say it is "stupid". Why would we want to know why the Olypic Pool feels wetter. Or how can you even tell its "wetter". The first news is  a great example of satire because of the persons name.

My response towards "The Right to Your Opinion" by Jamie Whyte

My response towards "The Right to Your Opinion" by Jamie Whyte is that it makes you realize the truth. I have thought many times that opinions from others were always important. They are important but if they know what they're really trying to say. I agree with the reading when it said something like, "If someone is entitled to an opinion then her opinion is well-supported by evidence."  Which means that if someone has an opinion then they should have some backup ideas on why it should be good. They can't just say what they think without they having a reason why!

My Opinion/ Response Towards "The Laughing Heart" by Charles Bukowski

My opinion/ response towards the poem "The Laughing Heart" by Charles Bukowski is that it tells you how you can make every day of your life better. To be aware of all your surroundings and how it can affect you or not. Life is not forever and is something that you should cherish and be thankful for everyday. To be thankful for everything life gives you, is to enjoy it and live life to the fullest everyday. Life comes with many complications but all have solutions to them no matter how difficult they might seem at times. Life is all about putting you through challenges and you knowing or trying to figure out the best way to overcome them. Basically saying, "don't sweat the small stuff."
Hello everyone, I want to welcome all of you to my blog!
